I've had this story rolling around in my head since August. Characters who'd show up in my dreams, settings, ideas. I'd been taking notes. And I'm laid off. And Sunday morning I just *had* to write.

I just bought the book, "No Plot? No Problem." by Chris Baty and am reading that hurriedly for any tips I can glean, since I only discovered NaNoWriMo for myself a couple of months ago.

I'm curious if people writing are hanging out in any particular SF cafes. I've been wandering around and am at about 18.5K words. I wrote 18K of them in the first 10 days and have been stagnant...now am changing the plot trying to figure out how to weave what I wrote into the new characters. Ack.

Just thought I'd "emote" here to avoid writing.

Also if you happen to own a cafe I have a typewriter I want to donate so people can come in and start typing a novel!

(straight off the website...)

We want you to write a movie.

Yep. We love writing novels in November. And we'll keep running NaNoWriMo until the sun implodes. But after seven years, we're eager for a supplemental adventure. One where we can get in over our heads and swim out past the creative breakwaters and experience the exhilarating surge of a thousand other nautical metaphors cascading over our laptops and legal pads in a froth of art-fueling adrenaline.

Also, we want to do it because it turns out that movie stars don't flock to amateur novelists in quite the quantities we'd hoped.

So we're heading into the world of screenplays. And we're currently laying the foundations for a new website that will provide inspiration, community, and a terrifying, month-long deadline for would-be screenwriters around the globe.

Like NaNoWriMo, the event will be free, fun, and self-competitive. Unlike NaNoWriMo, collaboration will be encouraged. Also, the whole thing will be helmed by someone much smarter and more experienced than me---a fantastic writer and UCLA-trained director named Kristina Malsberger.

Kristina is awesome, and you'll be hearing more from her when the temporary site for the screenplay event launches this fall. If you'd like to make sure you get a heads-up about the escapade, you can add your email address to our NaNoRemindMe box on the NaNoWriMo home page, and we'll send you an email when the new site goes up.

I'll probably alternate between whooshy ambient new age stuff (jellyfish rock) and industrial/techno. Scoff all you like, but Moby's helped me put together more than a few pages of prose!

Yeah, I'm exagerating, but there still a grain of truth in there somewhere. Is anyone else in my boat?

It's also devoted to spontaneous writing, but features a workshop-like setup (small critique groups) and shorter assignments (rather than an entire novel). Check it out. If it wasn't so close to NaNoWriMo, I'd consider it.

Anyone interested in a 4-week workshop session? I'm able to grant a "scholarship" this next one. My website is down for the moment but I set up a temporary blog, where you can get all the details. http://bellascribe.blogdrive.com. This is really late notice; deadline's right around the corner (lots of stuff's been in my way) so if you're interested you'll want to check it out pretty quickly.
